The Fordham Market
It began in 1946. Angus & Mark Fordham opened a hardware business which, over the years, became a Beaufort Landmark. In 1965 Duncan Fordham joined the family business, and started introducing such products as Adirondack chairs and squirrel proof bird feeders - hardware store innovations at the time. After fifty seven years of continuous service to the SC Lowcountry, Duncan invited a coterie of Artists & Merchants to join him in offering " A World of Shopping Under One Roof ",and Fordham Market was born.

One thing hasn't changed since 1946 - the Fordham Tradition of offering good products and friendly, courteous service.

The Art Market features works by award-winning artists Ellen Long, Kristine Cox and other Lowcountry artists. Their framed and unframed originals, giclee reproductions, photography and note cards reflect the fantastic beauty of South Carolina as well as contemporary trends in the world of art.

Ellen Long
Ellen Long, a Fripp Island resident artist, is well-known in the Beaufort, SC art community. Her watercolors, which often feature Beaufort architecture, lowcountry beach and wildlife scenes and distinctive flora of the area, are regularly exhibited at the The Fordham Art Market and at the Beaufort Art Association Gallery.

Most of Ellen’s art is focused on her intimate association with the shore, from Maine to the Chesapeake to her beloved Fripp Island, where she lives with her husband, Leon, and where she wakes up every day to the music of beach and ocean. “I try to plan every painting with the view of sharing my excitement about the coast – the wading birds, the shore turtles, the crabs the deer – and the incredible light and the sheer magic of the shore and marsh,” she says. Capture the magic she does, winning prizes in local and regional art shows. Her painting of a sunset-bathed Beaufort River was selected for the poster celebrating the fiftieth annual Water Festival in 2005.
